When I was a teenager when I lived with my parents, my bedroom was in the basement, and as such they didn’t particularly care what I did to my walls, ceiling etc

Which is why they didn’t care at all when, at age 13 in the mid-2000′s, I told them I was going to paint my walls with 6 foot tall murals of my favorite anime characters at the time.

Now, my parents have turned my old bedroom into a family room but refuse to cover up my adolescent shame, and every time I go over to visit I’m confronted with the troubling reality of the towering, hand-painted Inuyasha glowering at me from on high, reminding me I can never truly escape the sins of my past.

You asked, and I harangued my poor mother into getting pictures.

Notice how they DID paint the room, but left my… Beautiful artwork in tact.

And a hidden treat in the corner…

Time Lapse of the Land Taken From Native Americans

via reddit

I will reblog this EVERY GODDAMN TIME so people can understand how the US government taking more and more land from Natives is nothing new (even the land originally promised after being kicked off their original, sacred lands) and they NEED to be fucking stopped. They need to be held accountable for the destruction of our people not just then but also now.

If you’re wondering what that last BLAM of disappearing reservation land around the 1900′s was, that was when the Dawes rolls were initiated, the reservations were divided up so many acres per tribal member…. and the rest sold to white settlers.

The the age of the grifters began and even THAT much was wrenched away.

ma’am???

I had to read that last sentence three times

“the school District was ONLY desegregated in 2017.” Just 2 years ago?!

I’m so sick of this. She better win her lawsuit.

unicorns-and-fairy-dust

ONLY DESEGREGATED IN 2017? Did I just read that with my own two eyes?

Jesus H Christ America.

Fun fact: Mississippi only ratified the 13th Amendment banning slavery in 2013. The amendment was adopted nationwide in 1865 after a three-fourths majority of states voted to ratify it, but Mississippi never submitted the official documentation until February 7, 2013. (All other states had already done so.) This means that Mississippi didn’t officially abolish slavery until 6 years ago.

For more Mississippi madness, check out the documentary “Prom Night in Mississippi,” about a high school that integrated in 1970 but only had its first racially integrated prom in 2008.

there’s a story in aesop’s fables, i think it is, about a human talking to a satyr or something. The satyr asks why the human is blowing on his hands during a snow storm and he says “to warm up” later inside the satyr asks the human why he’s blowing on the soup and the human says “to cool it down”

and the satyr has had enough and says “well I won’t have a guest that breaths cold air one moment and hot air the next” and tells the human to leave his house

- Haa is hot because your breath is warm from your lungblood

- Hoo is cold because, while the air is still warm, you’re blowing it at a greater pressure by blowing it through a smaller hole, and the effect of the windchill is greater than the effect of the slight warmth in the air

That story always pissed me off, because while people generally interpret it as “don’t be double-tongued” or “avoid those who are inconstant”, my interpretation was “satyrs are FUCKING STUPID”.
